ORACLE’S INDUSTRY STANDARDS COMPLETE,
OPEN, and INTEGRATED By combining best-in-class
acquisitions with development of next-generation technologies, Oracle has
dramatically expanded the breadth and depth of its industry-specific
offerings. From the planned June 2008 launch
of Oracle Retail Release 13 to the rapid expansion of Oracle Accelerate
solutions, three key principles have guided all Oracle's investments in
industry solutions, according to Sonny Singh, Senior Vice President, Oracle
Industry Business Unit—the creation of complete, open, and integrated
solutions. To provide complete industry
solutions, Oracle is going beyond traditional ERP solutions to deliver
complete, industry- and segment-specific capabilities. To create open solutions, Oracle
has redoubled its commitment to open industry and technology standards, from
Java and XML to RosettaNet. To build integrated solutions,
Oracle has leveraged its open, standards-based Application Integration
Architecture (AIA), based on Oracle Fusion Middleware, so Oracle applications integrate not only
with each other but also with third-party and custom-developed software. Hear Oracle Senior Vice President
Sonny Singh deliver the latest news on Oracle's industry solutions, including
its big-picture strategy from key acquisitions to a list of targeted industry
segments. And find out how organizations can profit from Oracle's
unprecedented investment in complete, open, integrated industry solutions. Listen to the AppCast now (MP3, 13 min.)
MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE
. . . ANNOUNCING ORACLE ENTERPRISE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT On July 16, 2008, Oracle unveiled
the next release of its enterprise performance management (EPM) system. This
is the industry's most comprehensive, fully integrated suite of EPM
applications, and moves beyond transactional processes such as
quote-to-cash and develop-to-release to deliver what EPM leaders are calling
"management excellence." The launch comes nearly a year
after Oracle's acquisition of Hyperion. It represents a major step in the
integration of Oracle's Hyperion performance management applications, Oracle
Business Intelligence (BI) applications and Oracle BI foundation with Oracle
Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications. Watch the July 16 Webcast, where
Oracle President Charles Phillips; Oracle Senior Vice President Thomas
Kurian; Oracle Senior Vice President John Kopcke; AMR Research; and Oracle
customers introduce the next generation of Oracle's EPM system. BEST PRACTICES FOR ADOPTING E-BUSINESS SUITE, RELEASE 12 For all
customers who are planning an upgrade to E-Business Suite R12, Oracle has
released a white paper entitled “Best Practices for Adopting Oracle
E-Business Suite, Release 12” that describes best practices that can help
your enterprise become successful on Release 12. Written with
help from professionals in Oracle’s Support, Consulting, IT, and Development
organizations, this white paper offers practical advice on how to do a
Release 12 implementation or upgrade. Said another way, this paper tells you
“things you wish you knew” before embarking upon your Release 12 project. This white
paper is intended to be a living document and will be revised and
re-published frequently. The white
paper can be accessed via Metalink DOC ID 580299.1. __________________ ORACLE UNVEILS BEA’S ROLE IN
NEXT-GENERATION APPLICATION INFRASTRUCUTRE STRATEGY On July 1, 2008,
Oracle President Charles Phillips and Oracle Fusion Middleware Senior Vice
President Thomas Kurian outlined Oracle's application infrastructure strategy
in a live Webcast attended by partners and customers worldwide. This update
to the Oracle Fusion Middleware strategy combines the best products from BEA
and Oracle Fusion Middleware and provides pragmatic advice and next steps for
customers. Only Oracle delivers the #1 portfolio of open, world-class middleware products. Three core design principles help drive Oracle Fusion Middleware's leadership position in the market: ·
Comprehensive—Provides a complete offering—ranging from Java
application servers and business process management to Enterprise 2.0 user
interaction and content management ·
Preintegrated—Delivers best-in-class middleware products that
work together and with Oracle Database and Oracle Applications to lower the
cost of ownership ·
Hot-pluggable—Allows customers to drop and deploy Oracle
middleware into heterogeneous IT environments, providing long-term
flexibility, and the ability to optimize existing IT investments A World-Class Combination

ORACLE BUYS GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE SOFTWARE Strengthens
Oracle’s end-user training solutions to provide just-in-time, web-based
training support across the enterprise Oracle today announced
that it has agreed to acquire Global Knowledge Software LLC (GKS), a division
of Global Knowledge, Inc. GKS is a
leading provider of self-service training automation software. GKS products improve
end-user competency using enterprise applications through simulated transactional training and testing, as well as
auto-generated step-by-step instructions. GKS is a longtime Oracle
partner. GKS's Personal Navigator product is resold as a core component of
Oracle's User Productivity Kit (UPK) offering, currently deployed at more
than 2,000 Oracle customers. GKS products are
complementary to Oracle Tutor, Oracle's role based process documentation and
training software. The combination of GKS
products, Oracle Tutor, and Oracle's learning management software iLearning and
eLearning, is expected to provide customers a comprehensive, end-to-end
enterprise solution for creating and deploying business process
documentation, interactive system training, and just-in-time embedded support
for all applications across their enterprise. Oracle intends to form a
global sales unit to expand the focus on non-Oracle applications utilizing
GKS products, extending Oracle's software training offering across the
enterprise. The transaction is
expected to close in the third calendar quarter of 2008. Until the deal
closes, each company will continue to operate independently. Financial
details of the transaction were not disclosed. "Our customers are
looking for a consistent, cost effective training solution across the
enterprise to speed software adoption by end-users," said Ed Abbo,
Senior Vice President of Oracle Application Development. "With this
acquisition, customers will have access to a single technology for end-user
training and process documentation that spans applications across their
enterprise." "With the advent of
self-service applications and limited time and budgets for classroom-based
training, organizations need to provide more efficient training on relevant
job role processes and applications," said Kevin C. Riley, President of
Global Knowledge Software LLC. "We are excited that Oracle is adding
GKS's training software to Oracle's product family." "The combination with
Oracle is the culmination of a successful, long-standing relationship,"
said Joseph W. Cece, CEO of Global Knowledge, Inc. For more information click
