Oracle Unveils Oracle’s JD Edwards
EnterpriseOne 9.0 and Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 Oracle announced Oracle’s JD
Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0, the latest release of one of the company’s leading
ERP platforms, and Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0
includes a new Project and Government Contract Accounting module that helps
meet the diverse and complex project management requirements of industries
such as engineering and construction and professional project-oriented
services. The new module also helps project-oriented firms meet U.S.
government standards and requirements, such as the Federal Acquisition
Regulation (FAR), the U.S. Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and agency
specific rules from other governmental bodies. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0
includes enhancements for financial management, supply chain management and
human resource management. The latest release also includes industry-specific
capabilities for engineering and construction, food and beverage,
commercial real estate, industrial manufacturing and professional services. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools
8.98, the technology infrastructure for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
applications, includes innovations in reporting, integration, system
administration and user experience, and is available for JD Edwards
EnterpriseOne 8.10, 8.11, 8.11 SP1, 8.12 and 9.0. Oracle’s strategy is to deliver
complete, integrated and end-to-end product suites on an open,
standards-based middleware and database architecture. Oracle’s approach helps
customers to simplify computing environments, lower cost and risk, and
provides greater choice and flexibility. Key features of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
9.0 include: ·
New
Project and Government Contract Accounting module provides advanced project
accounting integrated to an enterprise's general ledger to help deliver
better data quality for improved compliance and financial management and
multiple options for expense allocation on projects. New functionality
handles detailed client-required payroll and time card reporting, report
generation and invoice printing to specific client formats, and different
financial burden and allocation methods for meeting client needs. ·
Enhanced
financial compliance capabilities through new data relationship functionality
for assigning correct values to entered information. Now, data can be entered
correctly using customer-defined rules to help eliminate the possibility that
inconsistencies, abbreviations or incorrect spellings are captured. ·
Dynamic
configuration capabilities enable sales and customer service representatives
to correctly enter sales order combinations comprised of products and service
offerings. ·
New
industry-specific enhancements for food and beverage producers (harvest and
blend operations), commercial real estate investors and managers (expense
participation) and homebuilders (national purchasing). JD
Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 supports JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
applications 8.10, 8.11, 8.11 SP1, 8.12 and 9.0. Key features for reducing
total cost of ownership include: ·
New
User Interface that incorporates customer-driven user interface improvements
and adopts a consistent Oracle standard to enhance productivity and improve
the visual experience. ·
More
standards adoption, including support for Web Services for Remote Portlets
(WSRP) and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), increases IT staff flexibility
and reduces learning curves for effective use. ·
Enhanced
Batch Process Management with out-of-the-box functionality to improve the
management and monitoring of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne batch processes and reports. “Companies across the globe rely
on JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to successfully run and grow their businesses,”
said Oracle Group Vice President and General Manager, JD Edwards, Lenley
Hensarling. “With Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 and Tools 8.98, we
are delivering hundreds of new enhancements providing business value and
driving ownership costs down. A new Project and Government Contract
Accounting module lets companies meet complex project requirements with added
accountability, compliance and performance.”
Prepare Now for the Change from
E-Government to Oracle iGovernment, Says Oracle’s Juan Rada Over the next 15 years, new second-generation Web applications could transform how governments interact with their constituents and usher in an era of increased interagency collaboration, according to a road map Oracle presented at the just-completed Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco. Dubbed Oracle iGovernment, the
new initiatives will build on the e-government foundation that has been
evolving for more than a decade. But rather than primarily offering an information-sharing vehicle, Oracle iGovernment will use the Web to deliver new ways for citizens to conduct transactions and dynamically interact with agencies. For governments, an Oracle iGovernment infrastructure promises to break down process and information silos among agencies and departments, which could increase collaboration, and provide business analytics to help shape public policy. “Citizens’ requirements have been changing over the past 20 years, yet the government has been slow in creating services to serve different constituents and different types of needs,” says Juan Rada, Oracle senior vice president for the public sector and education and health sciences. Rada says the “i” in Oracle iGovernment represents innovation, integration, and intelligence. Oracle will offer the building blocks for Oracle iGovernment enhancements with a suite of technologies that includes Web portals; service-oriented architecture (SOA); a Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) engine; and database-security, identity management, content management, and business intelligence capabilities. The application building blocks include specific solutions based on case management products for social services, law enforcement, and courts. Many of the applications are being modified and enhanced to serve better the needs of tax and revenue agencies, defense, as and citizen services. “As we talk to governments
around the world we’re finding that many are concerned about how to use the
IT infrastructure in the future for a new generation of policy processes and implementations,” Rada says. “These questions are appropriate for Oracle because we are in the unique position of being able to offer a complete stack of technology from infrastructure to applications for Oracle iGovernment.” He adds that as a long-time vendor serving the public sector, “we have already tailored many of our products to serve the needs of this area.” For more information on Oracle’s iGovernment check out
this link! New Webcast Series Shows How to
Transition to Next-Generation Government Applications Oracle is finalizing plans for a four-part series of Webcasts beginning in December that will help public sector agencies launch next-generation applications to improve delivery of services and communicate better with constituents. The Webcasts will detail Oracle’s vision for Oracle iGovernment, a framework for modernizing IT infrastructures and making it easier for agencies to share and manage information within the government and with citizens. The four-part series will be
hosted by Juan Rada, Oracle senior vice president for the public sector and
education and health sciences. The first installment will take place at 11:00
a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET on December 3, 2008. It will provide an overview of
the challenges facing government organizations today, the limits of
e-government for solving these challenges, and ways
Oracle can take organizations beyond e-government to Oracle iGovernment. Register now. Future Webinars will detail
other important elements of Oracle iGovernment:
Oracle iGovernment offers tools to develop flexible systems that
integrate across service functions and departments using a service-oriented
architecture (SOA); open standards; and a platform of database, middleware,
and applications. For more information, visit here.
Will Citizen-Centric Applications
Save E-Government? E-government may have logged successes in making information and some transactions such as tax filing accessible via the Web, but many citizens feel underwhelmed by the initiative “because it hasn't really changed their lives by helping them do business with governments any better than in the past,” says Thom Rubel, practice director, government programs, for IDC Government Insights. The problem? “E-government
hasn’t anticipated doing business with the citizen based on what the citizen
needs. Rather it’s based on what the government wants from the citizen,” he
says. Rubel offered his comments as
governments and technology companies alike consider next- generation government technologies, such as the Oracle iGovernment technology framework, unveiled at September’s Oracle OpenWorld. Tomorrow’s government applications could upend traditional e-government implementations by using Web 2.0, customer relationship management (CRM), service-oriented architecture (SOA), Web portals, and other technologies to initiate new types of interactions carried out not only on PCs but also via smartphones, kiosks, and notebook computers. “Mobility is the new frontier for government applications,” says Rubel. “Citizens are used to mobile devices for transacting business, and those capabilities are going to vastly increase, including within governments.” In addition, public sector agencies may explore ways to “harvest” information with “anywhere, anytime” applications that solicit information from businesses and citizens. For example, an army of citizen meteorologists might notify emergency managers of changing weather conditions as a hurricane approaches. “Governments should have the capacity to gather data that’s essentially free and very informative—it's from people on the ground who are reacting to events,” Rubel explains. The initial goal of original
e-government programs was to push information out to people, Rubel adds. “The
flipside, and where I see the greatest benefit for both governments and
citizens, is in this kind of polling where citizens are trusting enough of
the government entity to have more conversational transactions to help
governments know how to serve constituents better,” Rubel says.

papter! State of Vermont Selects Oracle Enterprise Taxation
Management to Help Improve Tax Administration Efficiency Oracle
Introduces Next Version of Leading Tax Software to Help Public Sector
Agencies Streamline Revenue Collection Processes and Improve Taxpayer Service To
help more efficiently and effectively administer taxes on behalf of its
constituents, the State of Vermont has selected Oracle Enterprise Taxation
Management. Oracle
also announced the availability of version 2.1.5 of Oracle Enterprise
Taxation Management. The application provides public sector tax authorities
with a flexible, standards-based solution for managing the core functions of
revenue and tax administration. The latest version features several new
capabilities including enhanced calculation configuration capabilities for
more flexible development of tax, interest and other values, as well as
expanded Web services capabilities. The State of Vermont will work with Oracle and CGI
to provide a single integrated tax and audit-processing platform for five tax
types - corporate income, business income, property transfer, individual use
and fuel gross receipts. Through the deployment, the state expects to realize
operational benefits by leveraging a single, modern technology infrastructure
for tax processing - built on Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server. Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management Version 2.1.5
Details Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management provides a
flexible and cost-effective alternative to custom-built systems that are
expensive to maintain and difficult to adapt to new tax laws and regulations.
It provides a single, unified view of each taxpayer
by consolidating information from multiple legacy systems across all tax and
revenue sources, enabling agencies to more efficiently and effectively bill,
collect and manage funds. The application helps improve revenue generation,
tracking and compliance. The next version includes the following features: · Enhanced calculation configuration capabilities for
more flexible development of tax, penalty, interest and other calculated
assessment values · Improved labeling of application menu configuration
items, allowing implementation teams to develop site-specific deployments · Enhanced sample data, tutorials and detailed online
help ·
Enhanced Web
services development capabilities for SOA-based integration with internal and
external business application services "We selected the Oracle solution supported by
CGI because of both companies' solid reputations in the public sector
industry," said Tom Pelham, Commissioner, State of Vermont Department of
Taxes. "We look forward to recognizing a quick return on our investment
with more efficient and effective tax management." "As new tax laws and regulations impact our
industry across the globe, Oracle is at the forefront of helping to deliver
the flexibility and cost savings agencies need to remain successful under
these terms," said John Andrus, vice president and general manager,
Oracle Tax Global Business Unit, Oracle. __________________ SOA Best

advanced BPEL concepts and best practices for development, deployment, and
administration from the architects implementing them in real-world
applications. Service-Oriented
Architecture (SOA) is creating a lot of buzz across the IT industry.
Propelled by standards-based technologies like XML, Web Services, and SOAP,
SOA is quickly moving from pilot projects to mainstream applications critical
to business operations. One of the key standard accelerating
the adoption of SOA is Business
Process Execution Language (BPEL) for Web Services. BPEL enables
organizations to automate their business processes by orchestrating services.
It forces organizations to think in terms of services: Existing functionality
is exposed as services. New applications are
composed using services. Services are reused across different applications.
Services everywhere! n this cookbook, 10 SOA
practitioners share their SOA best practices and provide practical viewpoint
to tackle many of the common problems SOA promises to solve. It's organized
into three sections: "Service Oriented Integration," "Building
Modern Applications," and "SOA Techniques." Sections 1 and 2
will "inspire" you to take the plunge into the world of services
and test-drive SOA yourself; Section 3 will "equip" you with
best-practice techniques for building a better SOA application. We hope you enjoy it! Edwin Khodabakchian, VP,

The HP Oracle Database Machine: Delivering 10x Faster Performance Than
Current Oracle Data Warehouses
Oracle Transforms Data Warehouse Deployments with Oracle®
Exadata Storage Servers, the First-Ever Smart Storage Designed for Oracle
Data Warehouses In a keynote address to nearly 43,000
OpenWorld attendees, Oracle Chief Executive Officer, Larry Ellison unveiled
the HP Oracle Database Machine, a system designed for extreme performance
data warehouses. The HP Oracle Database Machine consists of
a grid of Oracle Database Servers and a grid of new Oracle® Exadata Storage
Servers packaged in a single rack ordered as a complete system from Oracle. The
latest offering resulting from Oracle’s and HP’s long-time engineering
relationship, Oracle Exadata Storage Servers break the performance bottleneck
between database servers and conventional storage by shipping less data
through larger pipes. No changes are required to existing queries
or business intelligence applications to deliver extreme performance for
large Oracle data warehouses. Oracle Exadata Product Family:
The product family consists of two components. HP Oracle Database Machine is pre-configured for performance,
pre- tuned, and certified for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
tools and Oracle Real Application Clusters. Complete configurations can be
ordered from Oracle, with hardware support by HP. The HP Oracle Database
Machine is a high-performance system configured for data warehousing that
includes a grid of eight database servers featuring: 64 Intel processor
cores, and Oracle Enterprise Linux; and a grid of 14 Oracle Exadata Storage
Servers that include up to 168 terabytes of raw storage and 14 GB/sec data
bandwidth to the database servers. HP Oracle Exadata Storage Servers are key performance enablers
for the database machine and can be ordered separately if customers have an
existing data warehouse and merely require the storage enhancements.
Customers can build data warehousing solutions using HP Oracle Exadata
Storage Servers, which feature industry-standard components including two
Intel processors, up to 12 TB of raw storage and InfiniBand connectivity
delivering 1 GB/sec of data bandwidth per storage server. The HP Oracle Exadata Storage Server uses a massively parallel
architecture to dramatically speed up Oracle data warehouses by shifting the data-intensive
part of query processing away from Oracle Database Servers and closer to the
data. HP Oracle Exadata Storage Servers deliver 10x or more
performance improvements in data-intensive query processing, have virtually
unlimited I/O scalability, are easier to optimize for data warehousing, and
provide mission-critical availability and reliability.
